What Retired Applicants Need to Show

Without active employment, the embassy looks at two things:

• Financial capacity — regular pension income, savings, or investment income sufficient to fund the trip
• Return intent — property, family, long-term residence, ongoing medical care in the home country

Tips for Retired Applicants

• Property is your strongest tie — owning your home outright is powerful evidence you will return
• Name your family members — specifically mention spouse, children, or grandchildren staying in the home country
• Get comprehensive travel insurance — embassies know older travellers have higher medical risk; the minimum €30,000 is often not enough, €50,000–€100,000 is better for peace of mind and visa approval
• Show regular bank credits — even if your pension is modest, consistent regular credits look far better than a large one-off deposit
• Prior travel helps — if you've visited Schengen or other countries before without incident, mention it and list the visas/stamps in the letter
